CNN —A tram collision at Universal Studios Hollywood in California left more than a dozen people with minor injuries Saturday night, authorities said. Fifteen people were taken to local hospitals with injuries, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. “There was a tram incident at the theme park tonight that resulted in multiple minor injuries, confirmed by the LA County Fire Dept,” a Universal Studios Hollywood spokesperson told CNN in a statement. The theme park did not provide further details on what caused the issue with the tram. Universal Studios Hollywood operates trams for its popular studio tour, which takes visitors to various filming locations on the backlot, as well as 3-D experiences.

A sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot in his patrol car in Palmdale, Calif., on Saturday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. A passer-by found the deputy, Ryan Clinkunbroomer, unconscious near Palmdale Sheriff’s Station around 6 p.m. He added that investigators believed that the killing was captured on surveillance video and were analyzing a video that had been circulating online to determine whether it was related. Officer Clinkunbroomer, 30, had worked in the sheriff’s department for about eight years, Sheriff Luna said, following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father. “It’s usually the best of the best.”

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías was arrested on a felony charge of corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said Tuesday. Urías did not travel with the Dodgers to Miami, where they open a three-game series against the Marlins on Tuesday night. Urías was arrested late Sunday night by Department of Public Safety officers in Exposition Park, south of downtown Los Angeles. Other than acknowledging “an incident involving Julio Urías,” the Dodgers have declined to comment. Urías helped the Dodgers win the World Series during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, going 4-0 with a 1.17 ERA in 23 postseason innings.

CNN —Hurricane Hilary is expected to slam into Southern California on Sunday as a rare tropical storm, unleashing floods, fierce winds and heavy downpours as residents evacuate, parks and beaches close and first responders brace for water rescues. Although Hilary is forecast to move north from Baja California into Southern California Sunday afternoon, its impacts will be felt earlier. First responders have also pre-positioned to respond quickly and perform water rescues from flooded areas, state officials said. CNN —A man’s body was found inside a plastic barrel at a beach in Malibu, California, after a lifeguard spotted the unusual item floating offshore, officials announced. The body was inside a 55-liter black drum, which was discovered at Malibu Lagoon State Beach, Lieutenant Hugo Reynaga with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Monday. Homicide investigators are examining the circumstances surround the death of the man, who was identified as a Black adult, the sheriff’s department said in a release. A state park maintenance worker first spotted the large drum floating in the lagoon around 3 p.m. Sunday, Reynaga said. Around 10 a.m. Monday, the lifeguard swam out to get the barrel from the lagoon and opened it on shore, finding a “non-responsive” person inside, the lieutenant said.

Alprazolam is the generic form of Xanax, while difluoroethane is found in refrigerants and aerosol sprays. Carter died on November 5 of last year at the age of 34. Also known for his roles on television shows, Carter appeared in “Lizzie McGuire” on the Disney Channel and “7th Heaven,” which debuted on The WB Television Network. LOS ANGELES — The man involved in the shooting of Lady Gaga's dog walker during a robbery last year was sentenced Monday to 21 years in prison, officials said. James Howard Jackson, 20, pleaded no contest to the attempted murder charge and was immediately sentenced to prison, NBC Los Angeles reported. In August, almost four months after he was mistakenly freed from custody in Los Angeles, Jackson was captured and arrested in Palmdale, a city north of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. Los Angeles County officials have reached an $8 million settlement with the family of Andres Guardado, an 18-year-old who was shot five times in the back by a deputy in June 2020. The Los Angeles district attorney’s office has not yet decided whether to file charges against Vega and Hernandez. Guardado’s settlement was unanimously approved Tuesday by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors alongside four other settlements involving the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. All the settlements combined cost county taxpayers more than $47 million “with a range of extremely disturbing allegations,” Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly Mitchell said Tuesday.
